Smith Madrone Cabernet Sauvignon
Napa Cabernet The Way They Used To Make It.
"A Cabernet that exemplifies how the variety became so popular: classic, structural, aromatic, and finessed." - Wine Enthusiast.
The 2021 Smith-Madrone Estate Cabernet Sauvignon comes from the winery's steep, dry-farmed estate high on Spring Mountain above Napa Valley. Founded in 1971 by Stuart Smith and later joined by his brother Charles, Smith-Madrone remains family-run, estate-grown and estate-bottled, producing Cabernet in a restrained mountain style that deliberately favors freshness, structure and longevity over excessive ripeness.
The 2021 combines Cabernet Sauvignon with Cabernet Franc and a tiny amount of Petit Verdot, aged for 18 months in French oak. Black cherry, blackberry and plum are layered with wildflowers, sage, cedar, tobacco, graphite and mountain herbs. Firm but polished tannins and fresh acidity give the wine the structure to evolve for decades while preserving the distinctly savory character of Spring Mountain.
