One of California's defining Chardonnay houses, on Sonoma Mountain.
Kistler is one of the reasons I fell in love with California Chardonnay.
Cult status for good reason. High elevation Sonoma Mountain vineyards, volcanic soils, small production. On the nose ripe orchard fruit, citrus oil, a whisper of toasted oak that never overwhelms. On the palate it is rich and layered with vibrant acidity that keeps everything honest. The intersection of California generosity and Burgundian structure that very few producers ever actually achieve. One of the great Chardonnays made anywhere.
