Domaine Henri Gouges is one of Nuits-Saint-Georges' most historic estates, a family domaine since 1919 that helped define village Burgundy as a category worthy of serious attention. Fourth-generation cousins Grégory and Antoine Gouges now farm 14.5 hectares entirely within Nuits-Saint-Georges, including seven premier cru parcels, all worked organically since 2008.
The 2021 village bottling is a blend of fruit from multiple parcels across the appellation, vinified in concrete vats with indigenous yeasts and aged 12 months in oak barrels (15% new). The vintage delivered tension and precision after a challenging growing season marked by spring frost and summer hail; the Gouges parcels largely escaped damage. Expect bright red cherry, crushed raspberry, forest floor, and a mineral spine typical of Nuits limestone soils. The palate shows classic Nuits structure, firm but fine tannins, and a savoury finish that telegraphs ageability.
Whole-cluster fermentation is used selectively; the wine sees minimal sulphur and no fining or filtration. Drink from 2025 through 2035.
