Howell Mountain, Napa Valley · Cabernet Sauvignon
Robert Craig Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain
Howell Mountain volcanic fruit, made by one of Napa's longest-running mountain Cab specialists, in the year elevation paid off.
Above the fog. Above the valley. Built for the long haul.
One of Napa's longstanding mountain Cabernet specialists working with Howell Mountain volcanic fruit in a vintage where mountain sites outperformed the valley floor.
Robert Craig founded his eponymous winery in 1992 and built its reputation on structured, age worthy Cabernets from Napa's mountain districts. Howell Mountain sits east of Napa above the fog line, with vines planted on red volcanic soils between 1,400 and 2,200 feet, where longer sun hours, sharper diurnal swings, and naturally low yields produce tannins built for the long haul. The 2022 vintage was defined by the early September Labor Day heat dome, which compressed harvest in the valley but spared the elevated mountain sites, and Howell Mountain rewarded the vineyards that held their nerve.
Drink from 2027 through 2042.

“The 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon (Howell Mountain) is one of the most impressive wines in this range. Inky dark fruit, gravel, chocolate, incense, licorice and spice all saturate the palate. This deep, layered Cabernet Sauvignon is lights-out.”
