I open this when I want to change someone’s entire understanding of Spanish white wine.
Six small old vine Godello parcels at 680 metres above sea level on the north face of the Bibei Valley, farmed with organic and biodynamic practices on sandy granite soils. Perfumed, elegant and harmonious on the nose with white peach, citrus, a mineral precision that is almost architectural. On the palate pure purity and a fine granite granularity that lingers beautifully. Fermented and aged on lees in 500 litre French oak with indigenous yeasts. Rafael Palacios left his family’s famous Rioja estate to come here and make this. One taste tells you exactly why. 96 pts Jeb Dunnuck.
