Gina Giugni makes the most compelling argument for California Sauvignon Blanc I have tasted.
This is her calling card. Stolpman Vineyard is Demeter certified biodynamic, rooted in limestone soils in Ballard Canyon. The grapes were foot-trodden, whole bunch pressed the next morning, fermented with native yeast in old French oak and aged on lees for 8 months. Lemon peel, white flowers, crushed stone rise from the glass with lifted, textured energy. Mineral tension and unforced freshness throughout. Only 336 cases produced. I chose this because Gina’s farming philosophy and mine are the same conversation.
