Founded by David and Diane Cobb and now led by Ross Cobb, Cobb Wines has become one of the defining estates of California Pinot Noir. Coastlands Vineyard sits above the Pacific fog line in the rugged reaches of the Sonoma Coast, where cool temperatures, marine sedimentary soils, and low yields consistently produce wines of exceptional purity and longevity. Ross Cobb's Burgundian philosophy favors moderate alcohol, whole-cluster fermentation, restrained oak, and transparency of site, resulting in some of California's most age-worthy Pinot Noirs.
The 2021 Diane Cobb Coastlands Vineyard Pinot Noir is sourced exclusively from the original nursery block planted in 1989 on its own roots. Composed of 18 different Pinot Noir clones, this remarkable parcel captures the full complexity of Coastlands Vineyard. Fermented with 70% whole clusters, the wine unfolds with aromas of cranberry, blackberry, rose petal, lavender, incense, cedar, and Darjeeling tea, followed by a palate of striking precision, chalky tannins, and vibrant coastal acidity. The result is a Pinot Noir that is both powerful and graceful, offering remarkable depth without sacrificing elegance.
