Ashes & Diamonds Blanc No. 9
Steve Matthiasson's barrel-fermented Blanc is Napa's most compelling white Bordeaux blend.
Low yields, high standards, and a vintage worth waiting for.
Ashes & Diamonds' Blanc No. 9 is a barrel-fermented blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon from three vineyards in Napa Valley's Oak Knoll District and Yountville, crafted by Steve Matthiasson. Founded in 2013 by Kashy Khaledi as a love letter to 1960s Napa, the project revives the valley's pioneering energy through organic farming and restrained winemaking in a mid-century modern winery off Highway 29.
The 2023 vintage was harvested between August 13 and September 7, with fruit from carefully chosen Oak Knoll and Yountville sites. Fully barrel-fermented and aged eight months sur lie in French oak (19% new, from Boutes and Orion cooperages), the wine is textured yet bright, with honeysuckle, fig, apricot, and quince layered over a reductive core of nutty complexity. The blend delivers zesty acidity, mineral precision, and wild herb notes that promise considerable aging potential. 2,396 cases produced.
Certified Organic farming, 100% barrel fermentation with eight months élevage in French oak. Drink from 2025 through 2033.
